ZE BIG WOW – DECEMBER ‘09 UPDATE!

OK first and foremost how are you?  It’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to post an update on our site – so a thousand apologies!!

However, we’ve been very busy finishing our album and find ourselves ahead of schedule!  With all the songs recorded and mixed waiting to be mastered between Xmas and the New Year.

The 12 songs will be available individually and collectively on I-Tunes worldwide by the beginning of March 2010, although we’ll be adding some of the finished mixes to our site in January, so greatly look forward to your comments and feedback.

At the point of our last update, most of the arrangements were in place, but some songs didn’t even have titles and most of them no lyrics – so even we didn’t know what to expect regarding the finished product.

Over the course of the recording and writing a whole variety of influences old and new came to surface resulting in 12 songs fresh from the Beavis Maplin box of tricks!!

1)  “Peer Pressure Sucks You In” has a rap verse with bridge and chorus taking a funkier more melodic route.  Touches of Dan Reed and Living Color (check’em out) making an appearance.

2)
“Forgiven” has touches of Dave Lee Roth and Alex Harvey, before launching into a full on tribal shout along chorus.  Nice!

3)
“Je Ne Sais Quoi” French title, English Lyrics? – Don’t Ask!!   Continues the tribal vibe with distorted vocals, even a touch of Celtic melody in the bridge before launching into a big chorus.  Touches of Big Country and Thin Lizzy in this one.

4)
“Igloo In The Sun” A dig at the human race en masse, kicking in with big drums, guitar and bass. Poignant, thoughtful (!) most of all.. Brutally direct!

5)
“Doody The Obscuré” tongue in cheek, introspective, documenting the thoughts of yer average misfit.  Ska kinda vibe in the verse and fairground keyboard solo, add to the confusion/solution?

6)  “Hey Jessica Spencer”  Jessie was the daughter of Frank and Betty Spencer in the 70’s comedy “Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em” and for some reason the image has stuck with me of poor Jessica lying in her cradle while Frank was telling her about his new years eve performance that night.  Concluding in his own firework “Vesuvius”. (At this point he already had the fireworks in place fixed onto his body!!)   Nowadays unfortunately this story is in danger of having a more sinister motive, however it’s from a comedy, please don’t see it for anything more than it is.

Well that’s a brief (!) introduction to what’s to come from “Ze Big Wow”.  The rest of the tracks and all the lyrics will be posted in January 2010.  So until then we bid thee a fond au revoir or ciao for now maybe?

All that’s left to say at this stage is have a Great Christmas and disgraceful New Year! – thanks for joining us.

Cheers
Rob and Martin.

So, here we are July 2009 and the second album is well on the way!

The first four Demos are up on the home page (the finished versions will no doubt be very different.)

July sees us finishing drum tracks with Mart's live tracks played on a Roland TD6 - banged mercilessly into Cubase to set the ball rolling.  3 more songs are well on the way - "Get This!", "Je Ne Sais Quoi" and "7 Sisters", all to be completed by the beginning of August(?)

Our old mates Macca from 'Short Skirtz' and Katie from 'Toucan Chew' will be adding a touch of glamour and ballsy female vocals once again. (Fanx Guys!!)

Expect the next update very soon, thanks for stopping by.

Cheers for now.

Robbie and Mart.
p.s. Watch out for the forthcoming video bits and bobs comin' atcha soon!!
